The impact of the clashes that broke out in Pune on the 200th anniversary of the Koregaon Bhima battle is now being felt in Mumbai as well. Dalits and Marathas allegedly clashed in Pune on Monday, resulting in the death of a person.
Both Dalits and Marathas have taken to streets today and are staging 'rasta roko' protests across Maharashtra, including Mumbai. As per latest reports, protests have now spilled over to Thane with workers of the Republican Party of India (RPI) taking to streets in the city.
Several schools and colleges in Mumbai have been closed with protests intensifying in the city. Over 100 people have been detained across Mumbai in the wake of violent protests against the Koregaon Bhima violence.

UPDATES ON ROAD ADVISORY: Traffic congestion reported on Eastern Express Highway (at Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar, Cheda Nagar and Kamraj Nagar). People are advised to avoid these roads and instead take the LBS Road. Traffic from Vikroli north and south diverted to LBS Road. The Eastern Express Highway at Ramabai Nagar junction has been blocked by nearly 1,000 protesters for the last six hours despite heavy police presence. Commuters on either side of the highway remain stranded.
UPDATES ON TRAIN SERVICES: Local train services have been hit on the Harbour Line between Chembur and Govandi following protests. Special trains are being run on the Harbour Line between Mumbai CST-Kurla and Mankhurd.

UPDATES ON CHEMBUR: Four companies of state reserve police (SRP) and nearly 400 extra policemen from Mumbai Police have been deployed in Chembur, Mulund, Kurla, Govandi areas. Riot police has been deployed in Chembur, but Section 144 has not been imposed yet. Stone-pelting has been reported at the Fine Arts junction in Amar Mahal, Ghatkopar, and Chembur.
MUMBAI BANDH TOMORROW: Prakash Ambedkar, former MP and grandson of Bhimrao Ambedkar, has called for a Mumbai bandh tomorrow (Wednesday) to protest against the Koregaon Bhima violence. He alleged that perpetrators of the violence belong to right-wing organisations and have tacit support from the state government.
On police preparedness in the wake of call for bandh, Mumbai Police PRO Sachin Patil said additional forces have been deployed at strategic places. "We are fully prepared," he said.
UPDATES ON BUS SERVICES: Buses from Pune to Ahmednagar have started plying but services from Pune to Aurangabad remain suspended in the wake of the Koregaon Bhima violence.

Mumbai Police also tweeted an advisory on the protests. "Don't believe in rumours. Traffic on Eastern expressway was affected due to protests. It's moving now. Traffic at Chembur Naka is still affected. There is nothing to panic. Verify facts with police officers and men before posting anything on social media," the tweet read.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said a request will be made for a judicial inquiry into the Koregaon violence in Pune. He said a CID inquiry will also be conducted into the death of the youth in the violent clashes on Monday. Fadnavis also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased youth.
The chief minister cautioned people against rumour-mongers and appealed to "political parties to refrain from making any decisive statement".
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar alleged that right-wing forces were behind the violence that erupted in Pune on Monday.
Union minister Ramdas Athawale demanded action against the culprits who stoked the violence in Puneduring the anniversary celebrations of the Koregaon Bhima Battle. "[I] spoke to Maharashtra chief minister, [and] demand that this matter should be inquired," Athawale said.
